Challenge Exam for Course Credit
In courses for which no CLEP examination is available, UAFS may grant credit on the basis of examinations administered by the department. At UAFS we call this test a Challenge exam. This exam is for students interested in receiving course credit when a CLEP exam is not available. Students are required to take the Challenge exam prior to enrolling in the course. Consult the UAFS Academic Catalog for additional information about the Challenge exam.
Each department may have a different procedure for the Challenge exam but this is a generalization of the procedure:
- The Challenge exam registration form (PDF will open in a new tab) must be approved and signed by the department you want to award your credit. For example, for an IT Challenge exam for IT credit, then students would go to the IT department for approval. For welding credit, students would take the welding Challenge exam so students would go to the welding department for approval on the Challenge exam form.
- Next, the test fee must be paid in advance of testing, and the Challenge exam registration form must be signed by a staff member in the Cashier’s Office at the time of payment. The Challenge fee is $20 per credit hour. For example, a 3 credit hour course would cost $60 for the Challenge exam. This fee is for the "credit" but there may be additional charges for the exam. Check with the department regarding any additional cost.
- When you show up to take the Challenge exam bring a current photo ID, Challenge exam registration form, and a receipt to verify proof of payment.
- The Testing Center administers a couple of the Challenge exams for the departments, however, student's should always start with the department.
