Individuals who plan to apply to the Radiography, Surgical Technology, and/or Dental Hygiene programs are required to take the Psychological Services Bureau (PSB) for Health Occupations exam.

What is the PSB Exam

The PSB Health Occupations Aptitude Examination is used by applicants for admission to all of the various health care career choices and can predict an individual's readiness and capability for successful completion of the educational program. The examination addresses the required pre-requisite and acquired educational achievements commensurate with the objectives of the program. It comprises five separate tests that measure abilities, skills, knowledge, and attitudes important for success in the program and career choice.


How to Register for the PSB Exam

PSB registration forms are available in the Testing Center (Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center Room 205), Student Advisement & Career Planning Office, and from the Health Sciences web site.

Cost of the PSB Exam

Individuals are required to pay the non-refundable $25 test fee at the Cashier's Office (Smith–Pendergraft Campus Center) and submit a completed registration form to the Testing Center in order to complete the registration process and reserve a seat for the PSB exam. Once a seat has been reserved, another $25 fee is required to change to another test date.

PSB Scoring and Results

The PSB exam can only be taken ONCE PER YEAR. Scores are good for two calander years.

This is not a pass/fail exam. However, scores are used in the ranking: the better the score the higher the ranking.

The average PSB scores:

     Surg Tech – 240

     Radiography – 255

     Dental Hygiene - 260

Total points possible is 380


Your test results will arrive at the Health Science Department Secretary’s office (HS 104) about two weeks following the test..

Do not call the Testing Center or Health Sciences Department for your test results but come to the HS 104 with a photo ID.
