New Students Veterans (First Time GI Bill® Benefit Recipients)
To receive VA benefits at UAFS, you must:
- Be admitted to UAFS through the Admissions Office, having submitted all official transcripts from all previous institutions, including military transcripts. For joint services transcripts follow this link; however, for Air Force transcripts you must follow this link. For more information regarding the admission process, visit the following links:
- Apply to the Department of Veterans Affairs for education benefits, specifically:
- VA form 22-1990 (military service members, veterans, and reservists).
- VA form 22-1990e (Transfer of Entitlement dependents).
- VA form 22-5490 (dependents of permanently and totally disabled or deceased veterans/Fry Scholarship recipients).
- Once the application has been completed, the VA will send the student a Certificate of Eligibility (C.O.E.).
- Submit a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility (C.O.E.) to the School Certifying Official. Submission of this form will help with the processing of your file at UAFS and with the VA.
- You may submit a copy via:

- Attend a MANE Event New Student Orientation and register for a ROAR Registration appointment where you will meet with your assigned advisor. For more information, visit the M.A.N.E. event webpage.
- Keep in mind, only courses that are considered part of your current degree program are eligible for certification by the VA.
- Complete and submit the online Veteran Request to Certify Hours once registered.
- The Request to Certify Hours form MUST be completed EACH AND EVERY TERM.
- Submission of this form notifies the School Certifying Official (S.C.O.) that you are registered for courses and would like to use your VA Educational benefits during that specific term.
Transfer Students (Used GI Bill® Benefits at Another Institution)
To receive VA benefits at UAFS, you must:
- Be admitted to UAFS through the Admissions Office, having submitted[HC2] all official transcripts from all previous institutions, including military transcripts. For joint services transcripts follow this link; however, for Air Force transcripts you must follow this link. For more information regarding the admission process, visit the following links:
- Request a Chance of Program or Place of Training with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
- VA Form 22-1995 (Request for Change of Program or Place of Training.)
- VA Form 22-5495 (Dependents’ Request for Change of Program or Place of Training.)
- Once the application has been completed, the VA will send the student a Certificate of Eligibility (C.O.E.).
- Submit a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility (C.O.E.) to the School Certifying Official. Submission of this form will help with the processing of your file at UAFS and with the VA.

- Your admissions letter will provide you with the name and contact information for the Advising Coordinator in the college of your major. Contact this person for an appointment to declare your major and register for classes.
