New Students Veterans (First Time GI Bill Benefit Recipients)

To receive VA benefits at UAFS, you must:

  • Apply to the Department of Veterans Affairs for education benefits, specifically:
    • VA form 22-1990 (military service members, veterans, and reservists).
    • VA form 22-1990e (Transfer of Entitlement dependents).
    • VA form 22-5490 (dependents of permanently and totally disabled or deceased veterans/Fry Scholarship recipients).
  • Once the application has been completed, the VA will send the student a Certificate of Eligibility (C.O.E.).
  • Submit a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility (C.O.E.) to the School Certifying Official.  Submission of this form will help with the processing of your file at UAFS and with the VA.
    • You may submit a copy via:
      • Scan/Email – heather.chance@uafs.edu
      • Drop off – Financial Aid Office, 2nd Floor of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center
  • Attend a MANE Event New Student Orientation and register for a ROAR Registration appointment where you will meet with your assigned advisor. For more information, visit the M.A.N.E. event webpage.
    • Keep in mind, only courses that are considered part of your current degree program are eligible for certification by the VA.
  • Complete and submit the online Veteran Request to Certify Hours once registered.

Transfer Students (Used GI Bill Benefits at Another Institution)

To receive VA benefits at UAFS, you must:

  • Request a Chance of Program or Place of Training with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
    • VA Form 22-1995 (Request for Change of Program or Place of Training.)
    • VA Form 22-5495 (Dependents’ Request for Change of Program or Place of Training.)
       
  • Once the application has been completed, the VA will send the student a Certificate of Eligibility (C.O.E.).
     
  • Submit a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility (C.O.E.) to the School Certifying Official.  Submission of this form will help with the processing of your file at UAFS and with the VA.
    • You may submit a copy via:
      • Scan/Email – heather.chance@uafs.edu
      • Drop off – Financial Aid Office, 2nd Floor of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center
         
  • Your admissions letter will provide you with the name and contact information for the Advising Coordinator in the college of your major.  Contact this person for an appointment to declare your major and register for classes.
    • Keep in mind, only courses that are considered part of your current degree program are eligible for certification by the VA.
       
  • Complete and submit the online Veteran Request to Certify Hours once registered.
